What were some of the reasons that you joined the military?

“My father was a 20-year veteran who did two Combat Tours in Vietnam, and both my grandfathers served in World War II. I needed to enlist to get a kickstart in life, and it gave me some direction and purpose.”

“Serving in the US Armed Forces is the best thing that a young person can do coming out of high school if you are not sure what you want to do in life. It gives you an opportunity to learn discipline, a job skill, and form a bond with people you would have never expected to meet.”
What are some of the things you remember most about your years of service?

“The Brotherhood. The men that I served with in Iraq are some of the best, and I still have close relationships with some of these Brothers. It also gave me a sense of purpose and direction while serving. It also made me grow up and look at the big picture.”

Do you have any stories you would like to share?

“I was tremendously honored to have served in the US Army, and the support that we got back home when we were deployed was awesome. I remember the Yellow Ribbons, the kids writing to us from schools while we were in the desert, and the greeting we got when we returned home. We had great support from home, and it meant a lot to all of us who had been gone for a year.
